Reflection about English Lesson

Reflection 1

LANGUAGE IS LIFE

Tuesday, February 18th, 2013 at D02.105. My class, Mathematics Education 2012 meets for the second time with Mr. Marsigit. He is our English lecturer. Today, we get our first examination with him. There are fifty questions that must be answered, but we disappointed because none of us who passed this examination. Then, he reminds us about lecturer position and student position. He wish to make us understand that he perceive that we are an adult. So, our communication with him based in trust. He believes with us and we believe with him. We believe that he can facilitate us and he believe that we also do our task.

Now, the lecturer position not give us knowledge, but we must looking for knowledge by self. So, the will English is us, the attitude is us, the knowledge is us, the skill is us, and the experience is us. As the student, we must have a will. If we have a will, we can have an attitude. From good attitude, the student can get knowledge very well. The knowledge can raise our skill and then we can get experience. The experience is the best teacher for our life. Look at the scheme about it: Will >> attitude >> knowledge >> skill >> experience. So, we can conclude that English is us.
We are an actor of our study, of our activity, of our skill, of our experience. So, this examination not be considered as a burden. We must be grateful for the opportunity to follow the examination, so we can look at ourself, our position.
There are characteristics for English, for example speaking, writing, translating, reflecting, recording, answering the question, collecting the verb, looking for difficult word, etc. It is because English is life, language is life. And because the language is life, so the best way is using life approach. We can’t memorize all of language, but we can also implement it to our daily activity. There are list of component language, first is about the form, second is about substance. So, the form of language need the substance language.
And in the last of the lesson, Mr. Marsigit give us knowledge about verb, tenses, adverb, adjective, preposition, etc. Tenses are important. It is the key factor in try to writing English. If we do not understand, we also not use English well.
Students are people who are humble, not low self-esteem.
