Reflection about English Lesson


MEANING OF ADAPT

Monday, March 4th, 2013 at D02.105. My class, Mathematics Education 2012 meets for the four times with Mr. Marsigit. Today, Mr. Marsigit told us to make some questions for him about anything on the behind paper of reflection lesson last week. After we submit it, he read one by one the question that we make.
Firstly, he talks about when he was student like us and he thinking that the mathematics is only one. And then, he finishes his study to be aware that mathematics is not only one. In theory, there are many mathematics. A number of mathematics is similar to the number of people to think the mathematics. So, basically there are two categories of mathematics. First is formal mathematics that called as mathematics of the gods, mathematics of the angels. If depicted in the iceberg mathematics, pure mathematics is the peak of iceberg. Second is school mathematics that used in daily life, used by all people. School mathematics illustrated as the valley of the iceberg. And Mr. Marsigit more care with peoples that fighting to learn mathematics in the valley because they feel how difficult to climb the iceberg or volcano.

Then, mathematics must adapt to the situation and condition. And just stupid people that can’t to adapt. For example, if we want to magma of the earth from the sky, so we must use various methods to arrive in the bowels of the earth. We can’t just use single method, like use a parachute. We must adapt to the situation and condition, such as using a few tools other than a parachute to get into the bowels of the earth. Smart people who are can do it with different methods according to the terrain. That is means of adapt.
Adapt also used in education. We can’t teach pure mathematics for students of elementary school. Pure mathematics is aimed to university level. Pure mathematics for student of elementary school is useless and meaningless. Mathematics for younger students is activity. Activity to :
·         Search of pattern and relationship.
·         Problem solving activity.
·         An investigation activity.
·         Means of communication.
And the problem of mathematics education is the curriculum of mathematics is not suitable for students, especially for the students of elementary school. The curriculum is made by people that don’t have knowledge about mathematics. The curriculum is made by people from pure mathematics. And this curriculum that is not suitable for student can cause many new problems in mathematics education. So, the best method to learn something is sunatullah, accordance with destiny through develops method or approach method.
After Mr. Marsigit finish talking about mathematics, he take the paper of question and answer it one by one. The
questions as following :
1.       What should the teacher do to make the student keep their attention?
Answer : Be reasonable. When teacher speaking, students listening to the teacher. And when students speaking, teacher listening to the students. Or if the students their task, the teacher must correcting it.
2.       What is good student?
Answer : According to Mr. Marsigit, good student is student that can saying about good, student that can said that he/she feel happy with mathematics and mathematics is beautiful for him/her.
3.       How to make the student learn mathematics easily?
Answer :  It is not about “how to make”, but “how to facilitate” the student learn mathematics easily.
4.       What is good teacher?
Answer : A good teachers are teachers that facilitate their students with various activity, with various method. And to facilitate each student, we need technology, like Mr. Marsigit that uses his webblog to teach his students. Without technology, it is impossible to develop teaching of mathematics.
